Job Description
The Johns Hopkins Medicine Simulation Center (JHMSC) is dedicated to supporting the growing use of simulation methodologies in health professions education and professional practice. JHMSC provides consultative and supportive services for simulation-based curriculum development and delivery, assessment, faculty development and system integration for Johns Hopkins Medicine, including but not limited to the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (JHUSOM) and Johns Hopkins Hospital (JHH), and Johns Hopkins Hospital System (JHHS) entities as well as external clients. JHMSC also seeks to improve provider safety and patient care quality through simulation-based research.
We are seeking a Simulation Educator at the Johns Hopkins Medicine Simulation Center who will play a pivotal role in advancing simulation methodologies within medical education and professional practice. The position will oversee a diverse portfolio of simulation-based educational projects, collaborating with stakeholders to meet institutional education, assessment, and care delivery needs. The role reports to the Simulation Education Program Manager and involves close coordination with simulation educators, simulation operations specialists, faculty, staff, and students across Johns Hopkins institutions.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Curriculum Design
- Collaborate with content experts to design and develop simulation-based curricula aligned with institutional educational and assessment goals.
- Work closely with stakeholders to create, refine, and test scenarios with clear, measurable objectives, ensuring alignment with validated educational needs.
- Develop detailed simulation scenarios, scripts and assessment tools to address specific clinical and communication skills.
- Integrate best practices and innovative approaches in healthcare simulation into program design.
- Ensure curricula reflects diversity, equity, and inclusion principles to prepare learners for working with diverse patient populations.
- Regularly update simulation content to align with current clinical standards and institutional priorities.
Simulation Expertise
- Act as a resource in the application of simulation-based techniques, providing consultation to faculty, instructors, and educators.
- Understand and operate various simulator technologies, ranging from anatomic models to virtual reality surgical simulators, ensuring optimal use and application.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to individuals seeking to use simulation for educational, assessment, and process improvement purposes.
- Engage in collaborations with local, regional, national, and international colleagues to advance healthcare education through research and teaching.
Project Management
- Facilitate the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of simulation activities ensuring alignment with academic and institutional goals.
- Manage a diverse portfolio of simulation-based educational projects.
- Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams including faculty, technical staff and administrators to deliver effective simulations.
- Develop and maintain detailed documentation for simulation policies, procedures, operations, and accreditation.
- Collaborate with the Simulation Operations Team to optimize resource allocation for efficient project execution.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to simulation activities, logistics and or technology to ensure smooth program execution.
Evaluation and Quality Assurance
- Design and implement evaluation processes to assess the effectiveness of simulation activities.
- Collect and analyze feedback from learners, faculty, stakeholders to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
- Participate in research and quality improvement efforts, assessing the need for evidence-based improvements to meet care delivery protocol outcomes.
- Evaluate simulation activities to assess changes in learners' knowledge, technical skills, team performance, and latent safety issues, effectively communicating findings to relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards set forth by accrediting bodies and the simulation center, utilizing data and industry trends to suggest improvements in curriculum development.
- Analyze industry trends and utilize data to make recommendations to enhance existing curricula and propose new curriculum developments.
- Provide reports on simulation program outcomes, improvements, and impact on learner development.
Advanced Healthcare Simulation Education and Leadership
- Implement professional development programs focused on simulation educational best practices, including teaching, debriefing, and assessment methods.
- Participate in simulation-based research, disseminating findings to the simulation and healthcare communities through written and verbal formats.
- Engage in simulation community leadership, potentially through memberships in regional consortia or roles in simulation societies.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Proficiency in simulation technology and tools, including manikins, task trainers and audiovisual systems.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills within healthcare settings.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency in technical and computer skills.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in education or science related field.
- Five years of simulation training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal Healthcare Training (e.g., BS in healthcare field).
- CHSE Certification or obtained within two years of hire.

Role/Level/Range: ACRP/04/MF
Starting Salary Range: $75,100 - $131,700 Annually ($115,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00 pm
