Job Description

Job Summary

The Michigan Clinical Research Unit (MCRU) processing laboratory is seeking qualified candidates to: enter subject accession data; process and ship clinical subject specimens; communicate sample disposition to study teams; and support the research endeavor with other tasks assigned by the lab manager. The position is designed to provide additional capacity, a functional backfill for full-time staff on PTO, and to provide a laboratory presence for patient visits occurring outside regular business hours.

To be considered for this position applicants must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.

A high school diploma or equivalent with additional course work in laboratory sciences is required.

Desired Qualifications*

An associate degree in clinical laboratory sciences or medical laboratory technologist with eligibility for certification, or chemical, physical or biological sciences from an accredited institution is desirable

Work Schedule

This part-time position is expected to provide 8-24 hours of work/week. A minimum of 8 hours/week in scheduled day shifts is required. Additional hours are available based on demand and backfill for staff PTO coverage.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

This position is not eligible for remote or hybrid work. All duties require physical presence in the MCRU Specimen Processing Laboratory.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
