Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, has an immediate need for a Full-time Instructional Lab Coordinator. In the Chemistry Department. The work schedule is Monday – Friday 9:00 – 5:30 (may include some nights and weekends depending on the departmental need). This is a Bargaining Non-exempt, Grade 27 position. Non-exempt positions are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Identify instructional activities that will support the instructional objectives of the laboratory.
  • Organize the work and set up equipment, instruments and tools for use by students and faculty.
  • Provide direction in the facilitation of student laboratory experiences.
  • Assemble and check equipment for proper operation and adjust equipment as necessary. Perform general maintenance and repairs and/or coordinate with outside contracted services. Troubleshoot and solve problems.
  • Train students, staff and faculty on proper use of lab equipment and instruments.
  • Organize and prepare laboratory schedules.
  • Ensure and maintain a safe, clean and orderly laboratory. Adhere to all applicable OSHA guidelines and regulations.
  • Ensure that supplies and equipment are properly stored and secured controlling appropriate access to laboratory areas.
  • Prepare requisitions and place orders to maintain an inventory of equipment, software, materials and supplies.
  • Maintain system and applications software, peripheral equipment, boards and add-ons, productivity utilities and other special purpose software and hardware products.
  • Work with the Office of Information Technology to install and test software and hardware.
  • Recruit, hire, train and supervise students' work; monitor and provide training on safe work practices and procedures.
  • Specific responsibilities may vary based on the academic discipline associated with the laboratory.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology or a closely related field or the equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
  • Three years of related experience.   
  • Experience with instructional technology, equipment and educational materials employed in the Chemistry instructional laboratory.
  • Current and applicable hardware, software and peripheral equipment including personal computers, word processing, spreadsheets, and Windows-based applications.
  • Effective communication (written and verbal).
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship

Licenses and Certifications:

OSHA training or knowledge of OSHA laboratory standards is desired.

Hiring Range: $30.47 -$39.60 hourly. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity.  The maximum salary for this position is $48.74.
