POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive part-time HR Generalist to join our team. The HR Generalist at the YMCA of Columbia plays a vital role in supporting the mission and values of the organization by fostering a positive, inclusive workplace environment. This position is responsible for providing administrative support to the HR Department and assisting with various HR functions, including employee relations, talent acquisition, training and development, payroll, and compliance to ensure operational excellence and alignment with the YMCA's goals of strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with the recruitment process by approving and posting job requisitions, assist in drafting job descriptions, screening applicants, approving background checks, onboarding, and supporting hiring managers during the selection process to ensure a smooth and efficient recruitment experience.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll for all employees, ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll updates, including new hires, terminations, compensation adjustments, payroll inquiries, and payroll reporting.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in the Human Resources Information System. Enter new employee data, update changes in employment status, and ensure compliance with YMCA policies and applicable laws and data protection regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor Regulations, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, and EEOC guidelines.
  • Manage all aspects pf Playerspace for all volunteers.
  • Coordinate employee training and development programs, manage praesidium training platform and resources, track completion of required training including CPR, Child Abuse Prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Sexual Harassment training ensuring compliance with YMCA standards.
  • Assist with compliance efforts related to HR laws, regulations, and policies. Stay informed about changes in employment laws and regulations and ensure that HR practices are aligned with legal requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2-4 years of HR experience, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Certification in HR (e.g., SHRM-CP,PHR) is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills with the ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive employee information.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems (Paycom strongly preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Certification required within 60 days of employment: CPR, First Aid, AED, Oxygen.
  • Ability to complete the following within 30 days of hire: Child Abuse Prevention training; Bloodborne Pathogens and Sexual Harassment training.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to perform all physical requirements of the position; including sitting, walking, standing, bending, reaching and lifting up to 50 lbs. at a time.

 

** This is a part-time non-exempt position requiring approximately 20 hours per week with flexibility in scheduling to accommodate the organization's needs. **
