Job Description Summary

The Career Exploration Center (CEC) maintains informational resources to assist students in choosing career goals, programs of study, colleges, and life directions, and to learn the steps that lead toward those goals. The CEC offers computerized assessments of a person’s interests, values, personality, and other relevant factors and provides assistance in searching for colleges, scholarships, and potential employers. The Career Exploration Center is open to community members as well as Santa Fe College students, faculty, and staff.

The Career Exploration Center is seeking a Part-Time Career Specialist to assist students, community members, faculty, and staff with accessing and utilizing career exploration resources and tools, and to provide support to the Career Exploration Center Coordinator in the daily operation of the Career Exploration Center.

 

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Assists the Coordinator of the Career Exploration Center in the daily operations of the Center.

  • Greets users as they enter the CEC and orient them to the functions of the CEC.

  • Accepts, screens and routes telephone calls concerning activities and operations of the office, directing inquiries as appropriate and/or providing information.

  • Provides CEC assistance, support and information to students, faculty, and staff.

  • Works with users individually and in groups to assess their place in the career exploration process and their current needs.

  • Collaborates with users to develop career exploration plans which meet their needs.

  • Learns about and become proficient in the use of career resource materials, books, websites, tools, and technology including career related assessments, My Plan, Career Coach, Pathful Explore, My Career Shines, and MyFloridaFuture.

  • Offers workshops and make class presentations describing CEC services and the career exploration process.

  • Promotes the CEC and its mission at student-oriented events.

  • Develops collaborative working relationships with internal and external partners.

  • Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.

  • Strictly honors the privacy, security, and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal, and college regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Reports to: Coordinator, Career Exploration Center
 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:  A bachelor’s degree and/or a combination of completed education and work experience equal to four (4) years.
Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred: A master’s degree in counseling or a related field, teaching experience at the college level, or work experience in another student services capacity.

  • Organization & Time Management – able to plan, schedule, and organize tasks related to the job to achieve goals within or ahead of established time frames. 

  • Relationship Management – able to personally provide high level of interactive service to others, building relationships and addressing identified needs. 

  • Team Orientation & Interpersonal – highly motivated team player with ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with all levels within and external to the organization.
